Information

Although the floating heads of fish are caused by many reasons, in addition to the excessive stocking density, the overload of the total amount of fish carried, and the poor water quality, the convective characteristics of water are also one of the main factors that cannot be ignored. In layman's terms, the specific gravity (or density) of water with low water temperature becomes heavier (larger) and will sink, and the water with high temperature, its specific gravity (or density) becomes lighter (smaller) and will rise. We must understand and grasp the principles of water convection, which will be of great help to the smooth development of aquaculture.

In warm weather, after the water in the day is exposed to the sun, the hot and light water always floats on the top. After the sun sets, as the temperature drops, the upper water is cold and dense, and it begins to sink slowly. If the temperature is higher at night, the temperature of the water drops slowly, and the upper water does not drop to the bottom of the pool until early in the morning. This is also one of the main reasons why it is prone to hypoxia in the middle of the night to early morning in the hot weather.

If there is a heavy rain in the evening, the situation is different. The cold and heavy rainwater will quickly sink to the bottom, turning the remaining bait, fecal sludge, biological residues, etc. deposited at the bottom of the pool into the water together with the bottom water. From the middle and upper levels, these unhealthy organic matter will consume a lot of oxygen in the water. Before dawn in the morning, the dissolved oxygen in the water may be exhausted, and the fish will easily appear floating (turning) ponds due to lack of oxygen. Therefore, a sudden rainstorm at night (evening) will also cause hypoxia to turn the pond.
